NHS England reports record summer A&E demand

NHS England reports that A&E attendances in June, July and August 2026 reached 7,268,445, the highest summer total recorded, while 5,462,182 patients were treated, admitted or discharged within four hours over the same period.

Why it matters

The figures provide current context for urgent and emergency care pressures, workforce demand and service planning. NHS England also reported record ambulance call-outs during the summer period.
